IN PRIVATE’S UNIFORM

ARMY MINISTER’S TOUR NEW GUINEA WAR FRONT (Special Australian Correspondent.) (9 a.m.) SYDNEY, Oct. 6. A sentry at a north Queensland aerodrome could hardly believe his eyes when he saw a private soldier mingling freely with high ranking officers. He was advancing to put the private in his proper place when he suddenly recognised the culprit as Australia’s Army Minister, Mr ' F. M. Forde. *

Holding no military rank, Mr Forde travelled to New Guinea in a private soldier’s uniform in order to avoid exciting speculation which would naturally have been aroused by a battle area visitor in civilian clothes.
