VARIED CASES

RELEASES AND REVIEWS GISBORNE APPEAL BOARD Appeals against overseas service, reviews of general service appeals, and applications for release from camp comprised the cases heard by the Gisborne Armed Forces Appeal Board yesterday. Any changes in the reviews had not improved the man-power problem and the appellants sought further adjournments. With Mr. F. R. Ball, the chairman, were Messrs. C. E. Bickford and J. E. Benson. Cases in which the previous decision was rescinded and adjourned sine die conditionally upon the reservist remaining with the Home Guard were as follows:—J. D. Reichenbach, farmer, appeal by reservist; M. F. L. Butler, farmhand, Mrs. J. A. Butler; H. Finlay, milk vendor, Thain and Finlay. Sine die adjournments, the reservist to stay in the Home Guard, were granted in the following cases: —AMarshall, shepherd, appeal by the Director of National Service; R. Walsh, farmhand, M. Walsh; A. R. Nicol, farmer, seif; J. Steele, dairy farmer, W. Burnett; J. Ladd, driver, M. C. Scragg. A sine die adjournment was granted in a reviewed appeal by P. W. Matthews, farmer. An appeal by S. D. Spencer, for H. W. Mahr, shepherd, was dismissed, the reservist not to be called before March 31. Appeals Against Overseas Service:— C. G. Hogan, labourer, appeal by the Public Works Department, the board recommended that he be not liable; R. H. Boyd, farmer, self, it was recommended that he be not liable until December 31. Release Applications: —R. E. Humphreys, shepherd, appeal by F. E. Humphreys, leave was recommended to January 31; A. M. Tremewan, dairy farmer, self, the appeal was dismissed, the reservist not to be called before December 31; T. C. Zupp.icich, shepherd, the estate of T. Jex-Blake, leave was recommended to February 28; D. R. L. Fisher, farmhand, R. S. Fisher, leave was recommended to March 31, the reservist to join the Home Guard.
