CHANGE TO WAR WORK

Forty-one radio manufacturing firms in New Zealand, 12 of them in Wellington, are involved :in the change-over from civilian to war work resulting from the award of large defence contracts. It is stated that from details received of the radios' for service requirements the work in normal times would be sufficient to keep all firms occupied for a year, but with the shortage of labour the contracts may take longer. It -is unlikely that any one firm will do a complete job, but each factory will be allocated those sections of the work which they are best equipped to handle. Though most of the radios in this contract will not be for the New Zealand Government, the particular model has been designed in the Dominion.
