‘BLACK-MARKET' STEEL
ORDER AGAINST DEALER OPERATIONS ALLEGED (2 p.m.) CLEVELAND, Ohio. Aug. 14. The Office of Price Administration to-day obtained a temporary restraining order of the Federal Court against a steel dealer involved in alleged “black-market” steel operations. The attorney for the administration said that the proceedings were aimed at preventing “black-market” sales of steel. Re alleged that Willard Markle, a Cleveland steel buyer, purchased steel from various warehouses and resold it to Higgins Industries, Inc., at a price averaging £5 a ton above the ceiling price. The injunction suit specifically charged Markle with disposing of 160,0001 b. of ste.el to Higgins Industries, Inc., at excessive prices. Markle told investigators . that he carried his office ,in his hat. It is alleged that Markle netted profits totalling £lopo from “black-market” steel in one week.
