Seventy-six thousand members have now been expelled. The Rome radio describes the purge as “a revision of membership.” The general secretary of the Fascist Party has given these reasons for the expulsions: Lack, of interest in ; party affairs, refusal to join the voluntary militia for national safety, failure to wear the Fascist badge, and. infringement of the rationing regulations. The secretary added that a systema-. tic examination of the position _of every Fascist Party, member was being carried out to eliminate harmful debris. A Montevideo message states that anti-Fbscist Italians Opened a panAmerican conference designed to unify a free Italy movement.. Under the chairmanship of Count; Carlo Sforza. one of. the last pre-Mussolini foreign Ministers, .who has been directing the anti-Fascist movement from the United States, a. conference of members declared that their ideals fitted perfectly with those of, the United Nations apd expressed a hope that the Allies would recognise the movement and accept the help of the proposed ati-Axis Italian legion.
