SALE OF TYRES AND TUBES - !''■'• - I NEW CYCLES INCLUDED (P.A.) WELLINGTON, this day. Because no, specific prohibition was placed on the sale'of'tyres'and tubes -when a neW jCyfl# was (purchased, said the’ 1 Hori. D. G;..Su^ivan ( Minister of Supply, persons have used this omission asi a ' Weansof ; procuring' tyres and tubes. Cases have Been instanced where I 'a tyrh farid '-tube > have beeh attached to a bicycle and. sold as h fixture. This may have been within the provision ;of-.the regulations, but it certainly' was not in accord witji the spirit .'of thpm. To close this gap, an amendment to the regulation .has been .framed proh hibiting .the fitting of hew or retreaded tyres or any-tubes to a cycle for salfa unless all the provisions .of ,the tyre and tubririontrol rriotice have been complied with. In<-other words, fa cycle may 'be sold,* blit a permit ip necessary for sale of tyres and tubes. . i '• i
There had been no- increase in the price of cycle tyres* for two years, said Mr fc. A.' Macdonald,-- representative of the Ministry of Supply on thb national" comrrfittee dealing with the allocation of cycle tyres and tubes, co'mrtienting in "Wellington on the opinion expressed .by some dealers that new stocks might cost three and a half times the price in the immediate past. No application for an increase thad' been 1 rriade to the Price Tribunal. Though no guarantee could be given about future prices, it - was considered unlikely ■ that any increase would be so gfacat because for motor tyres the increase In' retail price was only 41 per'cent. 1 ' 1 ■' '
