KOPUAWHARA NEWS

Under the auspices of the Wairon Patriotic Committee, Nuhaka organised, on behalf of their queen, Miss T. Nepia, a dance which they held in the Y.M.C.A. Hall, Kopuawhara. Interspersed with the dances were a number of items which delighted all present. The Nuhaka choir, conducted by Mrs. J. Te Ngaio, rendered the items ‘‘On ward Christian Soldiers" and "Maoriland"; Miss T. Nepia was heard in two solos. “Cinderella" and “Sleepy, Sleepy Lagoon"; a men’s quartette sang, "Sweet Sabbath Eve”; Miss Mabel Brown, ‘‘We Three." Miss Mabel Brown and Mr Whau Matairn won the Monte Carlo waltz. Mr. R. Nathan was the M.C., and Mrs. Wairea supplied the music. A delightful supper was served by Mrs. T. Kelly, Mrs. It. Rangi, and Mrs. T. Priestley. The table tennis winners on the first night of the new aggregate were Mr. and Mrs. W. Babbington; for the second night. Mrs. E. Fairlie and Mr. A. 0. K. Sim. The Kopuawhara Women’s Institute recently held a five-hundred card tournnment. There was a larger attendance than usual and Mrs. W. Bennett and Mr. Raos won the respective trophies outright. The ladies served a home-made supper. At another tournament there were six tables of players. Mrs. R. Nathan won her trophy outright, while Mr. N. Pivic won the cut from Messrs. I). Peryer, J. Taylor, H. Rarere and A. 0. I(. Sim. A light supper was served. Recently returned from the New Zealand Women’s Institute Federation assembly in Wellington, Miss L. Bowen, Opoutama, Wairoa representative, addressed the Kopuawhara Women’s Institute at the monthly meeting over which Mrs. H. E. White presided. Miss Bowen displayed interesting samples of work exemplifying the cumulative achievements of the Women’s Institutes.
