AGED MAN’S DEATH

TWELVE DAYS MISSING

An inquest into the death of Michael Cooney E van, whose body was found near Nukunon on Friday, was held in Opotiki on Saturday before Mr LA J. Short, J. 8., coroner. _ ~ The deceased had been. missing from the home of sin son, Mr. Christopher Byan, since July 20. The deceased was S 4 years of age, but very active, and when lie did not return search parties were organised under the direction of Constable Bice, Taneatua. The body was found on Friday three miles from his home on Mr H. Tipping’s farm. > Evidence was given by Herbert Holmes, a neighbour of the deceased, Detective T. Sneddon, Gisborne, and Dr H. ,T. Mail Dr Mail stated that lie had conducted a post, mortem examination, and his opinion was that death was caused by haemorrhage of the brain.

A verdict of death aecordnm to the medical evidence was given by the coroner, who complimented the residents and the Home Guard on their extensive search and the police on their activities, saying that, the district was well served in this respect. Detective-Sergeant E. H. Waterson, Gisborne, appeared for the police.
