FOOD FOR PRISONERS
DESPATCH OF PARCELS REGULARITY RESTORED (P.A.) WELLINGTON, this day. Any shortages of food parcels in the camps for prisoners had been primarily due to the dislocation of transport between Lisbon and Marseilles, according to a message from the International Red Cross from Geneva, states the Prisoners-of-War Inquiry Office, Wellington. This has now been overcome and all camps hold two weeks’ reserve stocks of food parcels, which the International Red Cross is trying to increase progressively. The International Red Cross has also cabled that 1800 sets of battledress have been delivered to Oflag VIB since the beginning of May. The International Red Cross arranges for the immediate despatch from Geneva of battledress, underclothing and boots, etc., in bulk to any camp at which the arrival of a batch of new prisoners is reported. Another list of civilian internees at Camp Stanley, Hong Kong, has been received by the office at Wellington, containing -the names of approximately 2500 men and women. This is available for inspection in the four main centres. Prisoners on the files at Wellington now total 6137 and 14 unofficial. The address of the office is now 96 Tory street.
