THREE MONTHS' JOB

RENOVATIONS FINISHED GISBORNE POST OFFICE After three months’. work, the rearrangement of the interior of the Chief Post Office in Gisborne has been completed, and the public is now able to use the new appointments. The interior of the office has been almost completely rebuilt and changed round in order to make for more convenient working and to provide greater space. Before the rearrangement was commenced, some of the departments' were very congested because of the poor facilities, and it was found that, by rebuilidng the interior, adequate space was available and the work of the office could be carried on with greater efficiency. This has been carried out expeditiously by men engaged by the Post and Telegraph Department and under the supervision of Mr. A. G. Lindsay, assistant building overseer, Wellington, who has brought the job to the final stages of completion and who will be able to return to Wellington next week.

By now the public is familiar with the new. positions of the public counters and the increased space provided. One of the new installations is in the mail room, where an electric lift, brought from Invercargill, connects with the postmen’s room directly above for the purpose of carrying mail between the two floors. Another installation is an air suction tube for the purpose of carrying telegrams from the telegram counter to the telegraph operating room. When the final touches are made to the building, the men at present employed will go to Opotiki and then to other offices in the Gisborne postal district for the purpose of making renovations where necessary.
