TRAIL OF DAMAGE
RAIDS ON GERMANY PHOTOGRAPHIC EVIDENCE (British Official Wireless.) (2 p.m.) , RUGBY, Aug. 9. Recent attacks on Germany by the Bomber Command are shown to have had far-reaching effects by photographs which have been taken from the air this month. The Thyssen steel works, one of the largest in Europe, has been hit dead in the centre by a heavy bomb, and five other steel works suffered damage. A coal mine in the Neunkamp district has been put out of action by a direct hit. A zinc and sulphur acid works in Duisberg has been demolished and the extraction plant in a tar distillery damaged, as also have camouflaged tanks and boiler works.
Other damage throughout the Ruhr includes warehouses burnt out, silos and storehouses destroyed, and extensive damage to commercial buildings, houses and railway stations and yards.
