RUSSIA AND MIDDLE EAST DEPARTURE SHORTLY (9.30 a.m.) NEW YORK, Aug. 9. The Washington correspondent of the New York Times reports that the Republican Party leader, Mr. Wendell Willkie, will probably leave soon for a flying trip to the Middle East and Russian battlefronts, Mr. Willkie con-, ferred at length with President' Roosevelt .and first he refused to reveal whether the President had given permission for his proposed dramatic trip. However, informed circles believe that the Government intends to take full advantage of the propaganda value of such a demonstration of national unity as would be provided by a visit to the fighting fronts by the defeated Republican Party -Presidential candidate who vigorously supports the President's foreign poiicy.
