3000 SEAMEN KILLED
AMERICAN SHIPS IN WAR (9.30 a.m.) NEW YORK, Aug. 9. A message from Philadelphia states that Mr. Howard McKenzie, vicepresident of the National Maritime Union, addressing the union council disclosed that more than 3000 out of 50,000 union members had been killed since the war began. He added that the loss of merchant seamen exceeds hitherto the losses of all the American armed forces.
