CONGRESS PLEA
BRITISH WITHDRAWAL INDIAN ADMINISTRATION THREAT OF RESISTANCE (2.30 p.m.) WARDHA, July 14. The Congress Party Working Committee has published a resolution proposing the withdrawal of British rule from India. The resolution says that the committee has no desire to embarrass Britain or her Allies in the prosecution of the war or to encourage aggression against India or pressure on China by Japan or any Axis power. The proposal for withdrawal of British power was never intended to mean the physical withdrawal of all Britons from India and certainly not those who make India their home and live as citizens and the equals of others. The resolution appeals to Britain to accept the proposal and make it clear that if the appeal is rejected the Congress, under Mr. Gandhi’s leadership, will be reluctantly compelled to utilise all its non-violent strength for the vindication of its political rights and liberty.
