Breaking and Entering Charges Two young men who, faced several breaking and entering charges before Mr. E L. Walton, S.M., in the Gisborne Magistrate’s Court this morning were remanded to appear on Wednesday. They were Douglas Moore, aged 19, a labourer, and Ronald Speight Somervell, aged 20, a labourer, and they were charged with breaking and entering the shops of Frederick Forshaw, Cyril William Batson and the Poverty Bay Golf Club, and also with unlawful conversion of motor vans, the property of Wise Ice Cream, Ltd., and Frederick Forshaw. A further charge of stealing a pair of gloves was brought against Somervell. Meat Board Elections No ballot is required for the Gisborne district delegates on the Meat Board’s electoral committee, and Mr. T. Le C. Powdrell. Wairoa, and Mr. S. D. Reeves, Gisborne, have been elected unopposed. In Hawke’s Bay, however, four nominations have been received for three vacancies, those nominated being Mr. C. R. Edgecombe, Hatuma, Mr. J. Graham, Hastings. Mr. L. E. Harris, Napier, and Mr. W. N. Russell, Dannevirke. The electoral committee will meet in Wellington on August 2G and 27 to elect two producers' representatives on the board, for which the retiring members, .Messrs. J.as. Begg and. T. A.. Duncan, and also Mr. A. B. Moore. Whangarei. have been nominated. Letter Boxes Destroyed Complaints have been received from several householders regarding the destruction or damage to letter boxes in the front of private houses. A resident of the upper portion of Palmerston road stated that during a recent night there was the sound cf the letter box being wrenched off and thrown into the lawn, while similar sounds came from up the street When those responsible moved on. This occurred' 1 between one-’ find two o’clock in the morning, and .the disturbance alarmed many of the women whose menfolk were away serving in the armed forces. The resident added that if the persons concerned in destructive larrikinism of that type would realise that their actions were not only damaging property but also affecting the nerves of women alone with their children they would cease their depredations. Dangerous Driving at Waiouru For driving dangerously on the Waiouru highway. Rangi Mataeo was fined £3 and costs 10s by Mr, E. L. Walton, S.M.. in the Gisborne Magistrate's Court this morning. SeniorSergeant H. 11. Russell said that last February the accused drove a truck at an estimated speed of 50 m.p.h. around the bends on the wrong side of the road. He collided with another vehicle, but failed to stop, and considerable difficulty was involved in locating him. On a second charge of wilful trespass in the home of Eric John Neilson, Mataeo was fined £5 and costs 10s. Senior-Sergeant Russell said that the accused ihad entered the home of Eric Neilson, who was away in camp, and had refused to leave at the request of Mrs. Neilson. He went into her bedroom, sat on the bed and smoked a cigarette, and only after he had been there for about half an hour did he leave. Mr. G. Bradley Smith, who appeared for the accused in both cases and pleaded guilty on his behalf, said that Mataeo had been accustomed to visiting the complainant’s house, and did not know that Mrs. Neilson’s husband was in camp.
