TITULAR ARMY HEAD
DUKE OF GLOUCESTER suggestion” EXPLAINED (10 a.m.) LONDON, July 5. Sir John Wardlaw-Milne, interviewed by the Sunday Dispatch, said: "I believe that the appointment of the Duke of Gloucester as the titular head, as distinct from the active command of the army would be very popular and would give the army a great fillip. It must be understood that the appointment would be without administrative duties. He would advance the viewpoint of the army men and soldiers, ..who woulti,.feel that they had someone to represent their views. The Duke is known'as a very good soldier. He has been in most theatres of war. It must be perfectly clear that this suggestion is not related to the main point of the debate—the necessity for a single head of the three services.”
