BREMEN BOMBED
INTENSE ATTACK WIDESPREAD FIRES HALF HOUR’S POUNDING (By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright.) (British Official Wireless.) (10.30 a.m.) RUGBY, July 3. The powerful Royal Air Force flight which attacked Bremen last night included a high proportion of fourengined Halifax, Stirling, and Lancaster bombers. The weather was better than for some time. Clouds sometimes covered the moon but they were above the bombers. The attack was concentrated into half an hour, partly with the object of saturating the defences and making things more difficult for the firefighters. Bremen has always been a welldefended place and after the recent intensive attacks on submarine building yards and aircraft factories, the defences may well have been reinforced. Our casualties, totalling 13 bombers, were not high in proportion to the large force used. Widespread fires were left burning, several being in the dock area. Many night fighters were patrolling near Bremen and there were a number of interceptions. Most were inconclusive. An Air Ministry communique states that a small force of bombers attacked the enemy shipbuilding yards at Flensburg on Thursday afternoon. Two bombers are missing.
