SAVAGE ATTACK

BATHURST GAOL RIOT GOVERNOR AND WARDERS CONVICTS INVOLVED - (9.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, July 2. Three prisoners savagely attacked the Governor and two warders at the Bathurst gaol yesterday. The trouble began in the bootmakers’ shop. The prisoners attacked the warders with a blacksmith’s file, a piece of iron and a piece of wood, knocking the warders down, damaging their ribs, and inflicting other injuries. The governor of the gaol arrived and was also attacked. He received a severe cut on the back of the head and face. Police from .headquarters succeeded in quelling the disturbance and placing the rioters under arrest. Separate parts of the prison were dealt with to-day according to gaol regulations.
