MOTOR TRANSPORT

CONSERVATION OF TYRES ZONING OFFICER CHOSEN (P.A.) WELLINGTON, this day. The Minister of Transport, the Hon. R. Semple, announced yesterday that he appointed Mr. H, M. Christie as zoning officer for the North Island. As already announced, Mr. T. H. Langford has been appointed zoning officer for the South Island. Arrangements hav’e now been made for Mr. S. V. Raines, No. 4 Transport Licensing Authority, to take over Mr. Langford’s duties as transport licensing authority in No. 3 district. The present tyre position, said Mr. Semple, is undoubtedly serious and it is essential that every effort be made to reduce the use of motor tyres. The zoning officers have a very important job in this connection and they are making a start immediately.
