SEAMEN’S PROTECTION
PROPOSED MEASURES (2.30 pun.) LONDON, June 28. The joint maritime commission of the International Labour Office, comprising the representatives of shipowners and seamen, unanimously decided that the safety of men is the paramount consideration, and ho expense should prevent the adoption of effective measures. The recommendations include the provision of mechanically-operated devices, signal pistols, waterproof charts, first-aid kits, and also the appointment of Government inspectors of safety conditions.
