ECONOMIC UPSET
JAPAN'S DIGESTION SWALLOWING OF GAINS OWN MARKETS LOST (2.4,0 p.rii.) LONDON; June 29. Japan’s effort to. digest her newlyWori Eriipife is givihg her, economic storhabh-ache, says thb Evening Standard’s correspondent iri New Delhi. This is. pot wishful thinking; it is hard deductioti froth facts collected from very reliable sources and correlated by experts with the latest Japanese propaganda.. Japan pocketed thb world’s richest sources of raw materials, but in so doihg she gut off 90 per cent of her own markets and those of the occupied States. She is unable to absorb moire than a fraction of the vast rubber, tin, sugar and rice output of |n a bad shipping jam, Japan is desperately trying to readjust the im terndl economics of- the conquered countries., An analysis of Japanese radio propaganda proves that tfre readjustment is not basbd on a scientific programme for the reason that there is no short-term cure for the situation because of the ruthless debasement of the living conditions and the purchasing power ih the occupied areas. Since the present hardship and discontent among the vast conquered populations may turn into a tide of hate, Japan obviously faces a..serious, problem.
