DESTROYER SUNK

AUSTRALIAN LOSS MEDITERRANEAN CONVOY (Special Australian Correspondent.) (9.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, June 30. The loss of the Australian destroyer Nestor in the Mediterranean has bean announced by the Minister of the Navy, Mr. N. J. Makin. The ship was sunk while acting as an escort to a Mediterranean convoy during the fierce naval and air actions in the middle of June. Of the Nestor’s complement of more than 200 only three were killed and one seriously injured. The Nestor was one of the Javelin class of destroyers. ' She was commissioned in February, 1941, being manned by Australians under the command of Commander Alford S. Rosenthal, D. 5.0., and had taken p~r' in many operations. She was 1690 tons displacement and had a speed of 30 knots. Her armament comprised six 4.7 in. guns, six smaller guns and ten 21in. torpedo tubes.
