Shortage of Eggs
Sir, —There have been many articles and letters in the papers lately 'about the egg shortage, ' but one point has been omitted. Owing to the benzine shortage, many small farmers, who in times past kept at least 20 or 30 liens arid could quite as easily kept double that number, are now unable to get their eggs to the main markets. When one adds to that the facts that expense of feed is, high, the supplies uncertain, and labour scarce, it is not to be wondered at if less fowls rather than more, are being kept. To these people, excessively high prices are no attraction. What they need is a guaranteed supply of food at a reasonable rate, and some cheap method of forwarding eggs to the nearest market without too much waste of time to themselves. If our Marketing Board would give us these inducements to increase our egg supplies, then the housewives of the Dominion might be able to get sufficient eggs at a reasonable rate to feed their families. But something must be done scion, before the poultry yards are further depleted. ______ FOWL-LOVER.
