U.S. MARINES LANDED
SOUTH PACIFIC PORT BARGES AND TANKS (9.30 a.m.) WASHINGTON, June 2S. Southern Headquarters of the United States Marine Corps announced that .thousands of marines have been landed at a south Pacific port after several weeks’ voyage in a convoy which was without incident. It is reported that flat-bottomed powered scows were landed with the marines as well as amphibian tanks. The Marine Corps spokesman announced that the first major expeditionary force of United States marines had landed at a South Pacific port, apparently equipped for offensive landings in that area. The force includes flat-bottomed boats capable of a speed exceeding 60 miles an hour, carrying 40 men and all the necessary fighting equipment and also amphibian tanks and tank lighters.
