OBITUARY

Captain Alexander Reginald Pryde has died in Christchurch, following a lengthy illness. The late Captain Pryde was born in Dunedin on August 16, 1879, and began his sea career in sail. He subsequently joined the Union Steam Ship Company and was promoted to master in 1912, his first command being the Koonya. Later be commanded the following vessels of the company: Karamu, Taviuni, Kamo. Kamona. Corinna, Kittawa. Kaiapoi, and Karori, and. relinquished command of the last-named vessel on October 8, 1916. when he resigned from the Union Company on account of ill-health.
