CHILD PUNISHMENT
LONDON, Nov. 24. Schoolteachers should be allowed to give children the cane occasionally, Bristol’s Chief Constable, Mr. C. G. Maby* told a conference on juvenile crime at Bristol. “It impresses children more than anything else,” he said.
But Mr. W. R. Straker, chairman of Bristol Juvenile Court, said he was absolutely opposed to flogging. “If you want someone who orders flogging in the Juvenile Court, you will have to get somebody else to do it,” lie stated.
