NAZI PLAN REVEALED
SELLING SPOILS OF WAR AMERICAN CONSPIRACY (Reed. Jan. 30, 10 a.m.) NEW YORK, Jan. 29. A bizarre scheme whereby German agents sought to realise on millions pf dollars’ worth of diamonds looted from Antwerp and Brussels was recounted to-day when four men and a New York Corporation were indicted with a conspiracy for dumping loot and spoils of war. Part of .the plan consisted of an elaborate code designed to deceive the British censorship. Thus, when it was no longer advisable to ship diamonds via Russia, a message, “Aunt Kate dying fast.” meant “Peace with Russia dying fast.” The defendants named were the Pioneer Import Corporation, Werner von Clemm, its president—he said he was a cousin of Herr von Ribbentrop—Carl von Clemm, Ernest Cermer, and Carlos Hoeptfner.
