REFUSAL TO SERVE
A JEHOVAH’S WITNESS
Stating that ho was n Jehovah's Witness, and that he could not serve in the devil’s army as well as the army of God, Alan Mervyn Belcher, aged 24, who appeared before Mi W H Freeman, S.M., in Hamilton, pleaded guilty to a charge of failing to report for military diuy. Senior-Sergeant A. G. McHugh stated that accused was called up on May 7 for service overseas. Notice was sent to him to report at the drill hall on November 25, which he failed A sentence of one month s impi isonment was imposed, to lie followed by detention in a defaulters camp foi the duration of the war.
