FLYING-BOAT CRASH

EIGHT OF R.A.A.F. KILLED

MELBOURNE, Dec. 12,

Two Royal Australian Air Force officers and six airmen were killed when a Catalina flying-boat crashed early this week. The Minister for Air, Mr. Drakefor.d, who revealed this to-night, said the aircraft, which had just taken oft' on a night reconnaissance flight, struck a hillside and became a total wreck. Those killed were:—

Flying-Officer Lincoln James Sloan, captain, aged 29, single, of Brisbane; Flight-Lieutenant Nelson Prior Reid, second pilot, aged 26, married, of Brisbane; Corporal Neville Lawrence Ernst, aged 23, single, of West Maitland; Leading - Aircraftman Charles John Matheson, aged 33, single, of Victoria; Corporal Eric John O’Donnell, aged 23, married, of Leonora, Western Australia; Aircraftman George Robert Peterson, aged 33, single, of Adelaide; Aircraftman Keith Nighell Sidey, aged 21, single, of Kuridala, Queensland: Aircraftman Arthur Wallace Magee, aged 23, single, of Rose Bay, New South Wales.
