SAFETY OF SHIPPING

FURTHER REGULATIONS POLICE WHARF GUARDS (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. The principal provision in the amendment to the shipping safety emergency regulations gazetted last night gives the police authority to mount guard at the gangways of ships in port, in addition, to or in place of the ships’ guards who, up till the present, have been on duty on ships at the wharf since the outbreak of war. Further restrictions contained in regulations relate to the movements of small craft, giving the authorities power to prevent or prohibit small craft from going to or being in any place should the authorities deem it expedient to do so with a view to securing public safety, the defence ol New Zealand or the efficient prosecution of the war.
