Mrs. Basil Wright, Hicks Bay, was a visitor to Gisborne last week. Mrs. E. G. Rhodes. Rutene road, has returned from a visit to Wellington. Miss B. Metcalfe, Tc Araroa, was a recent visitor to Gisborne. Mrs. F. Williams, Havelock North, is the guest of Mrs. R. K. Murphy, Murnvai.
Mrs. M. Foster, "Whitaker street, returned on Saturday from a visit to Wellington. Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Bridgeman, Hamilton, are staying with Mrs. John MacDonald. Riverside road. Mrs. F. W. Law returned to Tiniroto yesterday after a brief visit to Mrs. S. E. Paviour, Iranui road.
Miss W. Lysnar, Stout street, intends returning to-morrow from a brief visit to Arowhana station, Whatatutu. Miss Mary Wood, Hicks Bay, was the guest of Mrs. G. W. Kells, Score road, while on a visit to Gisborne last week. Engagements
Drake-McKinlcy.—An engagement is announced between William Nevill, elder son of the Rev. W. T. and Mrs. Drake, Hastings, and Marjorie Thelma, second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. E. McKinley, Lytton road, Gisborne.
Foster-Maxwell.—Mr. and Mrs. W. Maxwell. “Te Oma,” Ruatoria, announce the engagement of their daughter, Marcia Heather, to Trooper Douglas David, only son of Mr. and Mrs. D. Foster, Levin. Gisborne Tennis Club The combined Yankee handicap tournament sponsored by the Gisborne Lawn Tennis Club was completed on Saturday afternoon in ideal weather. There was a large attendance of members and visitors, and the final stages of the play were followed with keen interest. Honours were secured by Mrs. G. Brown and Miss A. Slight, and Miss V. Lockwood and Mr. D. Taylor were the runners-up. Metropolitan Tennis Club The weather on Saturday was ideal for sports fixtures and consequently the various local tennis clubs were well patronised. At the Metropolitan club all the courts were in play and the games were thoroughly enjoyed. Among those present were Mesdames Royds, Turbitt (2), Thom, Rosie, Kirkpatrick. Pocock, Waple. Hill.
