CHALLENGE ACCEPTED STATE OF WAR DECLARED (Reed Dec. 9, 9 a.m.) BATAVIA, Dec. 7. Addressirtg the Netherlands East Indies people over the radio, the Governor-General said: “The sudden Japanese attack on Britain and the United States aims at establishing Japanese hegemony in the south and south-east Pacific. “Not in last place is the Netherlands East Indies. Therefore, the Netherlands East Indies accepts the Japanese challenge and takes up arms against Japan. Mobilisation of the outer possessions has been proclaimed. The internment of all Japanese subjects has been ordered. A state of air danger has been proclaimed.”

HONG KONG RAIDED Rec. Dec. 9, 11 p.m. L HONG KONG,’ Dec. 8. Japanese planes bombed, Kowloon as well as' Hong Kong. Slight damage was done. :
