ROVER SCOUT CHIEF
DEATH OF MR. W. D. JOHNS (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. The death is announced of the Dominion Headquarters Commissioner for Rover Scouts, Mr. W. Dennis Johns, after a short illness. He was aged 47 years. He was prominent in elocution, dramatic and musical circles. He succeeded Air Marshal Sir Robert Clark Hall as Dominion commissioner shortly after the outbreak of war. He was born in Wanganui and educated at Wanganui College. He took his M.A. degree at Victoria University College and studied art and elocution in Britain and Italy. He is survived by his widow.
The death has occurred in Auckland of the Rev. John Graham Hughes, Th.D. Dr. Hughes, who was born in Auckland 65 years ago, was the second son of the late Mr. R. H. Hughes, of Mount Eden. He was for many years in charge of the Baptist churches in Great Britain and the United States, and latterly of Presbyterian churches in New Zealand and Australia. He gained his doctorate at Louisville, Kentucky, and was engaged in church work in the United States for a period of about 16 years.
