Mrs. T. Peel presided over the monthly meeting of the Sewing and Knitting Club, held recently in the Patutahi Hall. A motion of condolence was passed with Mrs. J. Robb in the loss of her mother, Mrs. Stevens. Donations amounting to £2 10s were received during the month. The concert held recently realised £9 ss, half of this sum going to the school funds and the other half to the credit of the circle. Letters from soldiers overseas were read, thanking the circle for notes and parcels safely received. Members feel repaid for the work done when these grateful replies come to hand. The circle will not meet until the third Wednesday in January, when a further batch of parcels will be packed. It was ciecided to send a pair of socks to each local soldier who was a prisoner of war if the parents were making up a parcel. Afternoon tea was dispensed by Mesdames G. Ballard and E. Libline. Mr. D. L. Crooks, Danncvirke. was the guest of his sister. Mrs. J. H. Monteith, while on a short visit to Gisborne. —Mrs. H. Speight, “The Vicarage.” left this morning to visit relatives in Hawke’s Bay.
