NEW WARTIME FRAUD LONDON, Nov. 0. Latest wartime rackets range from beauty aids to dead horses. Taking advantage of the shortage of cosmetics, swindlers are placing on the market concoctions which have had disastrous effects. To expose this traffic tiie authorities have made a film showing women with swollen lips and facial disfigurements caused by these “beauty aids.” Other frauds exposed are the sale to civilians of tin helmets which are quite useless; milk substitutes which are mainly flour; the sale of horseflesh at an enormous profit.
The blackout brought a phenomenal demand for torch batteries. Prices soared* until the Government fixed prices. Now racketeers are producing batteries with the cells only half filled,
