PERSONAL

A former Gisbornb resident, PilotOfficer R. T. Blewett, has been granted a promotion to the rank of flightlieutenant in the Royal Air Force, passing over the intermediate rank of flying-officer. His rapid rise has been the subject of many congratulations offered to his parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Blewett, Remuera, Auckland. Flight-Lieutenant Blewett spent some time in Gisborne during his teens, and subsequently went to Nelson College. Later he was employed in the Customs Department at Auckland, and took a keen interest in flying, being a member of the Air Force Reserve prior to his entry for intensive training. He left for England in March last with the rank of pilot-officer, and has since served with a bomber squadron, making many operational flights.
