Mr. and Mrs. Archer Absolom, Rissington, Hawke’s Bay, are the guests of Mrs. E. M. Hutchinon, Cheesman road. Miss W. Wachsman, Havelock North, who has been the guest of her sister, Mrs. S. Gillingham, Waerenga-o-kuri, is at present staying with Mrs. R. Tombleson, Waimata Valley. , Sergeant E. E. Gillingham, Royal New Zealand Air Force. Hobsonville air base, accompanied by his small son. spent Show week with his oarents. Mr. and Mrs. S. E. Gillingham, Waerenga-o-kuri.
The friends of Miss Isla Duncan. Stout street, will be interested to learn that she has received notice to report at the Ohakea aerodrome on Wednesday, November 26, for duty in the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force. Yankee Tournament A Yankee tournament engaged the attention of the members of the Metropolitan Lawn Tennis Club on Saturday afternoon. Mrs. Dunphy and Miss Linton, and Mrs. Kirkpatrick and E. Fitzmauricc met in the final, the former pair emerging the winners by a narrow margin. Women members taking part included Mesdames Elliott, Turbitt (2), Kirkpatrick, Royds, Herivel, Heeney, Hill, Dunphy, Pocock, Waple, Watts, Henderson, Thom, Rosie, Hansen, Derbyshire. Stokes, Sloan; Misses Lynex, Clare, Wilkinson, Cassey, Hogan, Lintpn, Lyons, Aitken, Stokes, Johnson, Henshaw, Omundsen, Williamson, Hopps and Greig, Kitchen Gift Party Prior to her marriage to Gunner A. A. Bartrom, Miss A. Bryan, was the chief guest at a most delightful gift party given by Miss J. Foss at her home in Salisbury road. Roses and white and gold Iceland poppies were artistically arranged in the sitting-room, where guests were entertained with novel competitions. The winners were Mrs. G. Shaw, Misses L. Morrison, B. Coote and V. Morrison, each of whom received a dainty prize. A delightful tea was served, after which the bride-elect, assisted by Miss V. Morrison, opened her many gift parcels, which contained a variety of useful articles for the kitchen in her future home. In a suitable speech Miss Bryan thanked the donors for their much-appreciated presents. Miss J. Foss was charmingly frocked in cyclamen figured silk. A smartlycut frock of clover wool crepe accented with coffee coloured lace was worn by the bride-elect. Among the guests were Mesdames J. Foss, Coote, L. Foss, L. Bryan, G. Shaw, V. Stubbings; Misses B. Coote, V. Harper, J. Hocking, L. and V. Morrison.
