NOEL COWARD FINED

U.S. STOCKS PURCHASED RETURNS NOT SHOWN (Reed. Oct. 31, 11.30 a.m.) LONDON, Oct. 30. The British actor and playwright, Noel Coward, pleaded not guilty to charges of purchasing 5000 dollars’ worth of United States Treasury bonds in April without making a return of the transaction to the Bank of England and with owning other United States securities, valued at £6194, of which no return was made to the bank. He was fined £2OO and £2O costs.

Counsel said there was no element of fraud or intent to evade the regulations. Coward was an unpractical man and unbusinesslike.

The publisher, Jonathan Cape, was fined £IOSO with £42 costs for failing to offer American securities valued at £525 to the Treasury.
