LATE RECOVERY

NUHAKA TEAM’S WIN HIGH SCORiNG RUGBY .Nine points down ;it the interval, and seemingly a well-beat on team, the Nuhaka elut) side finally accounted for Gisborm* Old Boys by IP to 12 in Saturday’s senior Rugby football match in Gisborne. Tin* visiting team showed real class in many of its movements, and when the players really got going they left no doubt of their superiority. Jn the opening phases, the Nuhaka players found ditliculty in settling down, l! was obvious, however, that they wenjust failing to “click,” and that when they did so they would turn on iirst-clnss football. That expectation was realised after the change-over, and Old Boys were steamrolled in a highly-exciting finish. Both teams had sprinklings of representative players, and nine of the Old Boys’ points were scored by R. McKinley, who took full advantage of the Nuhaka players’ uncertainty in the first half. He scored one try when the visiting full-back was caught out of position by a high punt, and a dribbling rush carried the ball over the line. McKinley again figured in a scoring effort when he beat Nuhaka for the bull on a high bounce, and slipped through their defence almost untouched. A penalty kick gave him another chance Inter, and ho goulcd it in good style. Nuhaka tackled more solidly in the second half, and speeded-up their same generally. W. Whaanga, T. Christie, and T. 'Whaanga went through for their first try, in a nice bit of work, and though this success was cancelled by a try by Oleary, for Old Bovs, the visitors were on their mettle. Harvey kicked a penalty goal. h. Christie scored a try which Pnkimnna converted. and W. Whaanga got another try after a good run with Harvey supporting him, Pakimana again adding the extra points. W. Whaanga finished oft a scor-

ing effort a little later, to clinch the match at .19-12 in favour of Nuhaka. Mr. H. Hunter was the referee. GOOD JUNIOR MATCH Obi Boys’ juniors proved too fast in the open field for a combined Marist-CeUie junior side, in the curtain-raiser match, and won by Hi points to b. The combined side was' full of, enterprise, and made a good light all the way, their forwards taking on the opposition in tight end loose play, and enjoying a good share or success in the scrums. They were not as quick to exploit their ar vantages, however, and their backs lacked the combination that marked the work of Old Boys. For the winners Ingram scored two tiies, and Carson and McCallion got one each; R. White and Bruce converting one each. For Marist-Celtic, McKinley, Stevens, and Blane each scored a try. Mr. F. Bayliss was the referee.
