SCHOOL CONTROL
INTERMEDIATE NEEDS The monthly meeting of the Gisborne Intermediate School Committee took place last week, and was presided over by Mr. H. L. Primrose, who welcomed Mr. D. E. Chrisp to the committee, representing the Kaiti School, in place of Mr. P. W. Barlow. It was reported that the Hawke’s Say Education Board had discussed the possibilities of making available to the intermediate and primary schools of Gisborne a tractor and mowing ouipmeni, and Mr. F. A. McFadyen hd T)r. A. L. Singer were elected as the Intermediate School representavri a combined committee being formed to explore the scheme. The committee decided to purchase, at reasonable cost, n printing machine, which should prove a valuable asset in the school's craftroom appointments. It was felt that the machine would be very helpful in furthering the tuition of pupils in arts and crafts. Mr. Frank Wise reported that lie was still endeavouring to obtain ■i taikie projector, and should his efforts prove successful he had offered the machine to the committee for use in the school at a peppercorn rental. P'accntly a donation of artificial manure was made to the school, and the chairman stated that this had been spread on the playing fields. An invitation is to be sent to the Assistant-Director of Education, Mr. A. F. McMurtrie, asking him to speak at the annual prize-giving ceremony at the end of this year. The Hawke's Bay Education Board advised that, it could not approve the committee’s proposal for erecting further cycle shelters on a less expensive specification than the existing shelters. It was agreed that the board lie urged to reconsider the matter.
