OBITUARY

MRS. MARY AGNES ALLEN (Herald Correspondent.) Great sympathy is felt in Wairoa at the sudden death of Mrs. Mary Agnes Allen, wife of Mr. A. G. Allen, North Clyde, which occurred at the Wairoa Hospital on Wednesday at the age of 59 years, after a brief illness. Mrs. Alien, who was the eldest daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Coe, Waipawa, Hawke’s Bay, arrived at Wairoa in 1907 and, from the time of her arrival, interested herself in all matters affecting the welfare of the community, being particularly known for her good work for St. Peter’s Church. She was one oJ; the founders of the Wairoa Convent and was knowri for her ready help at all times to any good cause. Her eldest, son Larry was killed recently in action in Crete. Mrs. Allen was a member of the Wairoa Women’s Institute and of many other bodies having the good of the community at heart. She leaves a daughter, Mrs. S. G. Chrystal (“Pat”), Wairoa, another son, Russell, Wairoa, and one grandchild. There are six sisters, Mrs. Frank Parker, Gisborne, Mrs. Walter McKenzie, Waipawa, Mrs. J. Bretherton, Wairoa, Mrs. E. A. Nillson, Dannevirke, Mrs. Harold McKenzie, Mastcrton,. and Mrs. Les. Flood, North Auckland. There are four brothers, Mr. E. Coe, Hamilton, Mr. P. Coe, Stratford, Mr. John Coe, Wairoa, and Mr.' "Raymond Joe, Hastings. Requiem mass was celebrated this morning at St. Peter’s Church, and the funeral took place this afternoon at the Wairoa cemetery. Mr. J. F. Haughton, Wairoa, has received advice from Roxburgh, Central Otago, of the death of his sister, Miss M. L. Haughton, who was born in Roxburgh in 1877. Her keen interest in various good works was revealed in practical service, particularly in the Methodist Church, in the Plunket Society, and the District High School. Miss Haughton leaves, besides her brother in Wairoa, another brother, Mr. James Haughton, Auckland, and two sisters in Roxburgh.
