COMFORTS FOR TOBRUK
LONDON, Aug. 13.
During June and July the Tobruk garrison received about 2000 cases of comforts, including 37,582 ounces of tobacco, 22,050 packets of 20 cigarettes, and 5000 packers of 10, 21,566 packets of cigarette papers. 40,822 assorted tins of fruit, soups, golden syrup, coffee, and boiled sweets, 95,040 packets of chewing gum, 17,780 packets of chocolate, 30,884 cakes of soap, 6400 sticks of shaving soap, 7518 tubes of toothpaste, 13,944 tooth brushes, 60,000 razor blades, six cases of matches, 4600 socks, 10,630 handkerchiefs, 432 packs of cards,. nine wireless sets, 335,000 sheets of writing paper, and 133,500 envelopes. Also, 15,000 air-mail letter cards with a three-penny stamp attached have been distributed. This is only a fraction of the total oversea comforts issued during the period, but it represents prehaps the most important work the fund has done.
