BISHOP NICOLAS
DEATH AT SUVA (Reed. Aug. 16, 2 p.m.) SUVA, Aug. 16. The death is announced of the Roman Catholic bishop, the Rt. Rev. Charles Joseph Nicolas, 8.8. E. Born at Metz, Lorraine, in 1860, Bishop Nicolas was educated at Montigny, Metz and Dublin. He joined the Marist Society in 1882 and the missions six years later. He was first sent to New Caledonia, and from 1889 to 1910 was parish priest of the Suva Pro-Cathedral. During the next eight years he was provincial of Oceania and visitor of Marist missions. He was elected titular Bishop of Panopolis and coadjutor to Bishop Vidal in 1918.
