KOPUAWHARA NEWS

(Herald Correspondent.) An exceptionally large attendance marked the third evening of the present series of weekly five-hundred card parties sponsored by the Kopuawhara Women’s Institute and held in the Y.M.C.A. Nine tables were required to accommodate the enthusiasts, all of whom enjoyed a good evening's play. Mr. R. Nathan supervised the games, and a light supper was served by members of the institute. The winners proved to be Mrs. D. Ferycr, who cut successfully against Mrs. E. Fairlie, and Mr. K. Harris, while the ladies' lucky prize was won by Mrs. M osier. Mr. Higher cutting the’highest card in the men’: division, eliminated Messrs. P. Relcom C. Tamm, and J. liighet. Owing tc. other local entertainments being he'id on the usual card evening, ic was unanimously decided to. held t.ie fourth evening on the following Saturday. ’ , • M The successful competitors m the weekly handicap tournament held by the Kopuawhara Table Tennis Club were Miss Lorna Pcryor. who defeated Mrs. A. .Judd in the finals of the ladies’ section, and Mr. J. Puriri, who emerged victorious from a good game played against IT. Taylor. A dainty supper was enjoyed by the players. Miss Tanner, Kopuawhara, was a week-end visitor to Gisborne. —Mr. and Mrs. R. P. Cairns and Dorothy visited Wai.roa during the week-end.
