CALF VALUES RISE WESTFIELD MARKET (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this day. A big yarding of ox beef met with keen competition ut the Westfield stock sale yesterday. Late rates were maintained For all prime cattle, although extra heavy and unfinished sorts were slightly easier. An average number of cows and heifers sold ircely at late quotations. Extra choice ox made Us per ltHllb.; choice and prime, 37s to 40s; secondary and plain, -Us to 30j extra prime young cow and heifer, Ills to .ias: choice and prime, 28s to 80s; ordinary cow beef, 28s to 275; Extra heavy prime steers made £ls 10s to 117 7s Gd; heavy, £l4 10s to £ls; lighter, £lB to £l4; light, £ll 10s to £l2 10s; small and unfinished, £7 to £l.l ; extra heavy prime young cows and heifers, £lO 10s to £l2 12s 6d; heavy prime, £9 to £10; lighter, £7 10s to £8 10s; other tillable cows, £5 to £7. A smaller number of sheep ami wethers met with a good demand, realising firm bite rates. A fairly heavy entry of ewes brought less than last week. Extra heavy prime wethers made 35s to 37s 3d; heavy, 32s fid to 345; medium, 80s to 31s; light, 27s Gd to 295; plain and unfinished. 24s fid to 2Gs; extra heavy prime young and maiden ewes, 24s to 25s 3d; heavy prime. 22s to 235; lighter, 18s to 20s; plain and aged, 15s to 17s; others, as to 13s Gd. There was a keen demand for an average offering of lambs, recent rates being maintained. Extra heavy prime lambs made 31s to 345; heavy, 28s to 30s; medium, 2Gs to 275; lighter. 24s to 2as; light, 22s to 235; small and plain, 19s to 21s; culls, 14s to 17s Gd. A short yarding of calves, which was insufficient for butchers’ requirements, was offered. Competition was keen for all classes, values rising sharply on last week’s rates. Runnel's made £5 to £ll lGs; heavy venters, £G 10s to £7 17s; medium, £5 5s to £0 8s; light, £4 fo £5; small, £1 to £3 15s; unfinished and bucket-fed, £1 to £2; bobby and rough, 4s to 14s. There was an increased offering of pigs. Kidding was erratic and values generally were easier. Late rates were obtained in some cases, with the prices of stores lower. Choppers made £2 to £4 4s; heavy baconers, £4 4s to £4 8s; medium, £3 IBs to £4 2s; light, £3 10s to £3 14s; heavy porkers, £3 to £3 4s; medium, £2 11s to £2 16s; light, £2 3s to £2 8s; small and unfinished, £1 16s to £2 Is; stores, £1 10s to £1 16s; slips, £1 2s to £1 7s; weaners, 10s to £l.
