CUSTOMS RETURNS

FIGURES FOR JULY With a substantial increase in customs returns for July the State revenue collected through the Gisborne office of the Customs Department compares very favourably with the returns for the same month last year. In July, 1940, £2206 19s 5d was collected in customs, that figure being £4417 3s lid below the figure for last month. Sales tax showed an increase of £329 3s 7d over the figure for July, 1940, and there was a total increase of £4623 11s 2d. The amounts collected under the respective headings for the two periods were:—
