Burke, Ormond. Mr. and Mrs. L. Gibson were the week-end guests of Mrs. A. Kent, Tiniroto. Mr. D. Calder, Tahora station, was the guest of Mr. and Mrs. V. NobleCampbell, Tiniroto, at the week-end. Mrs. Salt, Stafford street, who recently spent a holiday in Eltham and Hastings, has returned to Gisborne.. Mrs. J. Faulkner, Gladstone road, has left on a holiday visit to Cambridge and Auckland. Mrs. J. H. Millier, who visited Hastings for the Millier-Fear wedding, has returned to Gisborne. Mrs. J. McLeod, Blenheim, is visiting her sister, Mrs. H. Patterson, Kabutia street. Mrs. W. Hamilton Irvine, Riverside road, and her daughter, Miss J. Irvine, are visiting Wellington. Mr. W. H. T. Marsdon, Wellington, and his daughter, Miss A. Marsdon, are the guests of Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Walton, Rutene road. Many friends in Gisborne will be interested to learn that Miss Celia Reese, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Reese, Christchurch, is leaving on Saturday by the American Clipper en route to Montreal, where her marriage to Acting-Flight Lieutenant Leonard Ernie Clarke, D.F.C., Royal Air Force, will take place. Engagement Hcrbert-Williams. —An engagement is announced between Alan Walter, son of Mr. and Mrs. G. H. Herbert, “Waierua,” Herbertville, Hawke’s Bay, and Alison Gordon, daughter of Mr. ancl Mrs. D. S. Williams, “Glepburn,” Ngatfapa. , League of Mothers Proceedings at the monthly meeting of the Gisborne branch of the League of Mothers, held in. Le Grand Cafe on Tuesday afternoon, opened with a prayer and the singing of the league hymn. Mrs. E. A. Muis was in the chair, and there was a large attendance of members. The Scripture-reading given by Mrs. Meredith was taken from the Book of Proverbs, chapter 31, and Mrs. Lockwood was responsible for the thought for the month, “Happiness is a habit; cultivate it.” A group discussion took place in regard to liquor in Territorial camps and the question of the freedom of modern youth. Mrs. W. Carruthers was heard in a vocal solo, the accompaniment being played by Mrs. J. W. Fergie. Week-End Hunt at Tiniroto Excellent sport was enjoyed by keen followers of hounds at the hunt sponsored by the Mahia Hunt Club at Tiniroto last week-end. The weather was all that could be desired and a feature of the fixture was the large following of children. On both Saturday and Monday, those taking part in the hunt were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Cleary at the Tiniroto Hotel 'for morning tea, and luncheon and afternoon tea were provided by the ladies of the district at the hall. Appreciation of the hospitality extended to the visitors was expressed by the master, Mr. Devery, on behalf of the club. On Saturday night a well-attended dance was held in. the Tiniroto Hall for the benefit of the funds of the Mahia Hunt Club and Tiniroto Home Guard. The music was supplied by the Baty brothers’ orchestra, and extras were contributed by Mrs. R. Spence and Mr. I. Elliott.
