END HITLERISM
LABOUR RENEWS VOW
NO COMPROMISE PEACE UNITY OF GOVERNMENT (EEtoe. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Reed. June 4, 11 a.m.) LONDON, June 3. The British Labour Party conference reaffirmed its determination to fight until Nazism and Fascism, are overthrown. The voting was 2,430,000 against 19,000.
A member of the House, of Commons, Mr. G. C. Ammon, chairman of the London County Council, in formally welcoming delegates to the conference, said: “The Mayor of Westminster should have welcomed you, but he and also the Mayor of Bermondsey were killed while on civil defence duty. There are many signs of devastation in London but no signs of weakening or panic. The citizens are determined to be worthy of the rest of the Empire.”
In submitting the Labour Party’s declaration of determination to fight until Nazism and Fascism are overthrown, Major C. R l . Attlee, Lord Privy Seal, reviewed the history of the previous year and said that Britain had emerged from the ordeal more strong and more united and stood unbeaten.
The keynote of the declaration was no compromise or peace, Major Attlee said, and all members of the Government were perfectly united in their determination to bring the war to a successful conclusion and to destroy Hitlerism.
Regarding Russia, Major Attlee asked whether the Soviet would continue to sit at the dinner table or be the next meal on the menu.
