GOOD NAPIER MATCH P.B. TEAM'S VISIT Reporting to the weekly meeting of tho management committee of the Poverty Hay football Association, held last evening. vv. simmons, .manager of the Poverty liny representative team which visited Napier last Saturday, stated that Napier won tm match hy turn? goals to nil, putting on a line display of soccer. 'Hiere were present at the meeting Messrs. J. Parkin, ehairman, J. McLean, \V. Simmons, J. Watt, K. Johnson, and M. A. Nixon, hon. secretary. The Napier officials gave the Gisborne team a hearty welcome, Mr. Simmons reported, and the occasion had been taken to ~uggc*st a visit to Gisborne of a Napier schoolboys’ soccer team, the suggestion be mjr well received. He hoped that early advice would be received tmm the Napier ..lanagemeul committee as to the possibility oi making the visit. i;eporcs on matches played over the week end were received as under:; — Saturday, May Hl.—Thistle 8, Eastern Union 5; Intermediate Old Hoys 2, Manga papa nil; Central 2, Kaiti nil. Monday, June 2.—Thistle 6, Eastern Union 2, to win the Kyne Cup. The Fairelough Cup, for the King’s Birthday schoolboys’ tournament, was won by a High School team comprising J. Watt, 1\ Thomson, R. Maxwell, I). Han key, P. Scott, S. (Jiligren, and M. Baty. The success of the King’s Birthday tourna meat was a source of much satisfaction to the management committee, the number of iunior teams being a record. Members ot the committee expressed appreciation of the standard of sportsmanship shown by the competing teams.
Matches for Saturday next, were drawn a under:—Seniors. —Mercantile v. Hasten Union. Juniors. —Kaiti v. Intermediate Ok Boys: Mangapapa v. Central. Referees wii be Mr. J. Easton, seniors; and Messrs. Bran son and 13. Jury, juniors. Messrs. McLeat and Parkin will be linesmen.
The committee thanked Mr. Ron Johuso: for his action in having the Kyne Cup re plated at his own expense. It was decided to hold meetings of th< management committee at fortnightly in tervals, commencing on Monday, June id.
