DEATH AT 89 YEARS

The death occurred in Christchurch recently of Mr. Thomas Taylor, aged 89, a well-known figure in banking circles in the South Island. Mr. Taylor ife the father of Mr. G. D. Taylor, manager of the Gisborno branch of the Bank of Australasia. Mr. Thomas Taylor first entered banking about 1887, at the age of 18, and experienced the gold-rush days in Otago and Southland. He retired 22 years ago and settled in Christchurch. He was keenly - interested in geology and mineralogy. Mr. Taylor was the oldest justice of the peace in the Dominion for length of service, having been appointed 80 years ago. Of a family of 20, 10 survive their father.
